Before I went to the lake, I made a detour through Athens to spend the morning with my BFF Allison since she had the day off. We went to a park to let Will get some energy out since I knew we'd be in the car a lot that day. Most kids light up at parks because of the fun playgrounds. My kids lights up at playgrounds because he sees other kids with....
...wait for it....
Yep.
Hats.
The park there also had a mini-zoo, which had some surprisingly cool animals like black bears.
And bald eagles!
After leaving the park, we went to a cute restaurant to get some lunch,
and then Will and I hit the road again and headed to the lake.
When we got to the lake, we took advantage of the hot sun and hit the pool.
For dinner, Megan's mom made us all stuffed shells and the boys were the first ones to try them.
They were delicious!
The next day, Will and I were the first ones up and got to enjoy this beautiful view in the sunroom.
Will and Jackson enjoyed their morning snuggles with Papa Doug.
And Will cried when Papa Doug had to go outside to check on the BBQ in the green egg.
Sofia, Jackson and Will enjoying breakfast.
After breakfast, we took a boat ride. The boys did NOT like their life vests!
Poor Will couldn't keep his balance in it (and being on a moving boat didn't help).
He needed a lot of help being held up.
Megan ended up putting Jackson in Sofia's swimsuit that had floaties in it, and he was much happier. Even though it had a huge pink flower on it. :)
Will eventually sucked it up and I even caught a smile.
We spent the rest of the afternoon at the pool. Isn't the view amazing?
Be still my heart.
I'm not sure how the book made it down to the pool, but it's called Blue Hat, Green Hat and for obvious reasons, it's Will's favorite. The other kiddos joined in for a little story time.
The next morning, Will greeted Jackson with a hug. Or a pat on the head. Whatever.
Then it was play time with Danny.
Sofia was not a fan of Will getting in between her and her daddy!
After breakfast, we went to a big pool that had a zero entry area (which means it's like how the ocean meets the sand. It's super shallow and gradually gets deeper), splash grounds, and a big water slide. Will had fun playing at the splash grounds.
Guess what he's after...?
This is his "uh oh" face. We weren't able to get video of him doing it, but when Will would see kids (or anyone) go underwater at the pool, he would suddenly say, "uh oh!" But as I mentioned in his 15-month post, his "uh oh" is his mouth making an "o" shape and a higher tone followed by a lower tone. It's quite funny. Hopefully we can catch it on video one day and share it.
The kids going underwater only distracted him for so long before he had his sights set on Jackson's hat again.
When we got back to the house, Will was ready to play the hat game with Papa Doug.
The next morning was our last morning. Will played with Danny's hat. (What else?)
and I even caught this video of him with Danny's hat. He loves finding places where he can see his reflection. Especially with a hat.
Although it was a little chilly and windy that morning, we spent a little more time in the pool.
After lunch, we packed up and headed back home.
It was a really great weekend of home-cooked meals, fellowship with friends, and relaxation. Their house was the perfect escape for me and definitely what I needed. I'm so grateful for their hospitality...especially since Will clung to Papa Doug so much!
*Thanks to Megan for letting me use some of her pictures!
