Our time in the hospital with Will flew by. He was born late Sunday night, and it wasn't until 1:30am Monday morning that we were in our postpartum room. We had a lot of visitors throughout the day Monday, which was really fun but also exhausting. At some point that day, one of the nurses mentioned they might need to check Will for jaundice because he was looking a little yellow. By Tuesday morning, he not only had it, but his levels were pretty high. He spent the rest of the day on a bilirubin light bed, and we decided it would be best to not have any visitors since he couldn't spend more than 30 minutes out of the bed, which is how long it took to feed him. By early evening, we were waiting for them to test his bilirubin levels again. We were also waiting for the results of other blood work done to test for infections. I spiked a high fever during labor & delivery so Will was born with a fever of 100.5, and they had to make sure his fever was due to my fever and not something else. Everything checked out clear, and we were discharged at 11:59pm. You heard me. 11:59pm. (Don't you just love insurance companies?) Getting a screaming newborn in the car seat and the car seat in the car - for the first time, after midnight, in the freezing cold - is not an easy task. It was 1:30am when we pulled into the garage and welcomed Will into his new home for the first time!
