Masters 2012

This year, a dream came true for Wayne.  We got to go to the Masters!  Given, it was the Monday practice round, but it was still amazing.  If you've never been to Augusta National, I definitely think it should be on your bucket list.  It is absolutely beautiful!  Not only that, it is high class, and you can tell.  I loved it there and hope we get the opportunity to go back.

To break up the trip, we decided to spend the night at the land my dad owns in Hancock county (aka "the country" aka "the farm"), about an hour away from Augusta.  I spent many weekends there as a little girl but haven't been in years.  Since then, my dad and brother have planted corn and have named it Greene Acres.

My dad and brother were both there when we got there Sunday afternoon, so they showed us around for a bit.  My favorite part was when I got to see all of the new farming equipment they've acquired, especially the tractor!  I jumped right up on it, and my brother fired it up so I could take it for a spin.  I felt like I was back at my roots.

Wayne enjoyed taking it for a spin as well.

A couple of hours later, both my dad and brother headed back to the city (as the country folk would say) and Wayne and I were left to fend for ourselves.  We enjoyed building a fire, roasting marshmallows and being removed from the craziness and busyness of our everyday lives.

The next morning, we got up bright and early to head to Augusta National.  Unfortunately, we didn't read the instructions that cell phones were not allowed but cameras were (only during the practice rounds).  So we don't have a single picture from our experience there, but it was certainly enjoyed!

As a woman, I was most impressed by the real bathrooms (not port-a-potties) and the fact that I never had to wait in line!  The concession lines also moved quickly and efficiently.  The only other PGA event I've been to was the Tour Championship at East Lake a couple of years ago (where I was hit in the leg by Steve Marino's drive off the 18th tee...yes, that happened), and they could definitely take some notes from Augusta National!

The course itself is a lot more hilly than it looks on TV.  Because the weather has been unseasonably warm this year, the azaleas had sadly already bloomed, but at least I didn't have to worry about getting stung by bees.  (I feel that I have pretty bad luck at golf tournaments now, so I can only expect the worst, right?)

While we loved being there Monday, we loved even more watching the final round from the comfort of our own home.  We were both jumping up and down when Bubba won!
